Abstract

In this article, we examine the flagship genre of journalism—the interview—from the perspectives of communication theory, linguistic stylistics, and pragmatics. Among the various types of interviews, we focus on the cultural radio interview: the podcast. Although the podcast is a form of new media, it adheres to the same well-established laws of discourse. We analyse two episodes of the cultural podcast All You Can Read, hosted by Marius Chivu, through the lens of conversational pragmatics, exploring concepts such as the communication contract, phatic function, orality, and discursive strategy.
